Cape Coast Community Group Chairperson’s Update and Overview

Stretching across Haumoana, Te Awanga and Clifton the Cape Coast is one of Hawke’s Bay’s most distinctive and beautiful coastal communities. A place where ocean, land and people meet in a way that feels both grounded and full of possibility. The Cape Coast Community Group (CCCG) exists to protect that identity, strengthen local resilience and ensure the coast thrives for generations to come.
CCCG is a volunteer driven hub centred on community wellbeing, environmental stewardship and local advocacy, where we facilitate:
Community resilience - help to prepare the coast for challenges like erosion, storms and climate impacts
Environmental care - look after our beaches and protecting our waterways.
Local advocacy - represent residents in conversations with councils and other agencies. This is with decisions affecting our roads, beachs and infrastructure.
Neighbourhood connection - create events and updates and acting as Custodians of our local halls.
We hold a free community sausage sizzle and bonfire (weather permitting) at the Te Awanga hall on the first Friday in November every year. In March we have a Community Party at Haumoana School. Fun and games and more sausages for everyone and well supported by Hastings District Council and the school. Local voice in planning - ensuring residents have a say in council decisions affecting roads beaches and infrastructure.
We hold community consultations in our halls and will advertise those dates here and on social media. The Cape Coast thrives when we all work together!
Our Why The Cape Coast is beautiful but it’s also vulnerable. Rising seas, stronger storms and ongoing erosion mean the community must be proactive. CCCG provides a unified voice for
residents, a central point for information, a way for locals to contribute meaningfully to our future.
